The history of film began in the 1890s, when motion picture cameras were invented and film production companies started to be established. Because of the limits of technology, films of the 1890s were under a minute long and until 1927 motion pictures were produced without sound.

Lens flare used to be a mistake in hollywood films, But now sci-fi and action flicks where a badge by covering the screen with an anamorphic flares.
Films like Star trek Directed by JJ Abrams, Super 8 Directed by JJ Abrams,
And Star wars: the force awakens directed by JJ Abrams (Are you seeing a trend here).
Lens flares happen when light goes inside the lens and goes everywhere, Then when you get the cameras rolling you have a lens flare on your screen.
But there’s something called an anamorphic lens that has an oval shape so that when lights do come in that you get a more JJ Abrams feel to your flick.
Lens flare is the light scattered in lens systems through generally unwanted image formation mechanisms, such as internal reflection.

Before CGI movie directors had to rely on practical effects and models to sell their look and feel for their scenes.
Movies like Star trek Deep space 9 used a whole bunch of models like the Enterprise, The deep space space station, and more.
They also used real exploding models for a more realistic feel.
Models were always useful when you couldn't fly over huge cities to get one shot, So the would use landscape models to give the illusion that you're seeing a real city and all the real car’s, Billboards, Buildings and more but really you're just seeing a model in a soundstage.
Models take lots of time to make, If your model is a huge space station then you're going to have to insert hundreds of hundreds of lights to sell your space station effect.
When you mold a model then you have to create negative space where when you mold it all the detail will be.
Molding a model can be a hard job too, I mean you have to create your negative space, Put your liquid inside, Let it sit, Take out your mold, Paint it, and (If needed) Add lights or (If needed) Explosive’s.
Models can also be hard to work with, If you need a truck to go flying into the air and explode on the ground you are going to have to take the truck and put a string on it to give the flying effect, Then you have to have to have an explosive on the ground so that when the truck hits it it explodes or You have an explosive inside the truck so that when it hits the ground it explodes from the inside.
In modern day films people can use miniature's and people won’t notice.
Film tid-bit: The Hollywood sign was originally made of wood, And it was actually called The Hollywoodland sign, And when they were going to take down the sign a young woman crawled to the top of the H and jumped off, And now the Hollywood sign is made of and shiny plaster.
